Shandong Dongping: A Landscape Residence

Exploring Innovative Forms of Residential Buildings

In 2019, MUDA Architects embarked on an experimental new residential community project in Dongping County. The goal was to maintain the ecological environment around the building, advocate for open and diversified spaces, and explore innovative forms of residential buildings. The result is Shandong Dongping, a landscape residence that pushes the boundaries of traditional urban apartment buildings.

The residential buildings in Shandong Dongping are strategically positioned to face south, ensuring maximum exposure to sunlight. The facade of the buildings incorporates a ground-level landscape design, with transverse floor slabs interwoven to form a staggered diamond facade. Large glass curtain walls on the southern side provide ample natural light and panoramic views. On the north side, horizontal parallel aluminum louvers create a partially opening and closing facade, complementing the diamond landscape on the ground.

MUDA Architects has created a unique living community with an innovative layout, open and shared bottom landscape, and captivating sky gardens. The integration of characteristic buildings adds to the charm of the community, inviting residents to embrace a new ecological and green lifestyle. Shandong Dongping fosters an open and pleasant living environment that reconnects people with nature.

The design team behind Shandong Dongping includes Chief Architect Yun Lu, along with Jiandan Xu, Fan He, Yixuan Mei, Dian Rong, Shuran Jia, Chenyu Lv, and Dan Ni. Their collective vision and expertise have brought this project to life, creating a place that prioritizes people's experience and promotes a healthy and ecological way of living.

The Shandong Dongping project is located in Dongping, Shandong Province, China. The design has been completed, with an estimated date of completion in December 2020. This innovative design has already been recognized for its excellence, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2020. This prestigious award celebrates designs that showcase creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life.
